Sweden’s climate work will be tried in court since the environmental organization Aurora sued the state, reports Ekot.
When 300 young people sued the Swedish state in 2022 for lack of climate policy, it was rejected in the Supreme Court, but HD left an opening to try a climate case brought by an association. The association Aurora did so earlier this year, and now the Chancellor of Justice (JK), who represents the state, has agreed that the issue can be tried in the Stockholm district court.
However, JK believes that the state has done enough as emissions have decreased over a longer period of time.
– The state has a certain margin of judgment and there you must also be able to reassess the policy and change it. But that you should generally have serious work to reduce emissions, we believe that Sweden as a whole is doing that, says Martin Mörk, head of agency at JK, to the radio.
