The parents of a seven-year-old boy in Michigan who died of obesity after long-term neglect are charged with murder.
The boy weighed 115 kilograms when he died in November 2025 as a result of an enlarged and weakened heart, US media reports.
The boy who was non-verbal did not attend school and was bedridden. According to the indictment, he was not given proper food and the parents did not seek care for the son.
The pair are charged with second-degree murder, a somewhat milder classification of murder under American law. They are also charged with torture and three counts of child neglect, one of which involves the boy’s sister. If convicted, the couple could face life in prison.
