A couple of cases of beer, two chairs and an excavator.
This is how Micael Stohm describes the process behind “Kukön”, which has gone viral recently.
– Yes, it has really rattled off, he says.
Kukön, as Micael Stohm chose to call it, has actually been ready for several years.
But it is only recently that attention to the beak-shaped project just south of Ulricehamn has gained momentum.
The island has recently featured in SVT, SR and Ulricehamns Tidning, among others, and received tens of thousands of views in various social media.
– I think the old men at work threw out pictures of this poor island when some from SVT were there, says Micael Stohm, who works as a salvager on weekdays.
– Then it turned out as it did. Shit good. It turned out great.
Wedding by the pond
Micael Stohm can’t help but laugh when he talks about the pond construction in 2019, where he and a friend suddenly agreed to add a penis-shaped island in the middle of the pond.
In previous interviews, he has described the design stage as “a couple of cases of beer, two chairs and an excavator”.
– It’s a big pond, but I had lost the spark a little because I just dug and dug and it didn’t even show that I had been there, he says.
– But then it was a poleman who started to help and then at least a little soil started to be moved. And then I thought “we must have an island”.
Said and done.
The island is between 18 and 11 meters wide, depending on where you measure. The length is roughly 28 meters.
The shape is best seen from above. But by the dam there is also a small lookout point, with a good view of Kukön.
– We actually had our wedding up there on the hill, says Micael Stohm with another big laugh.
– My wife has a lot of crazy ideas of her own, too, so she just gets on with it.
New projects?
He is careful to point out that he applied for and received all the necessary permits for his dam construction. But regardless, all reactions so far have been positive.
– Yes, people tan themselves to death and we’ve had a few people running here to see it too.
– It’s fun to share a little. But then I also think it’s fascinating to have stuff that no one else has.
After the success, there are also new – still secret – plans for other projects.
– Yes, I have to break myself now somehow, before someone else does. I just have to manage to get hold of an excavator again.
