Last night was the warmest in Germany since measurements began, according to the German weather service DWD.

In Kubschütz, located in the state of Saxony, the temperature was 29.4 degrees during the night.

The previous record from 2003 has thus been broken. Then 27.2 degrees were measured at night on the mountain Weinbiet in the state of Rhineland-Palatinate, German media write.

In recent days, Germany has broken heat records even during the day. In Drewitz in Saxony-Anhalt, the temperature reached 41.3 degrees on Saturday.

At the beginning of next week it is expected to be cooler.

According to the German weather service, heat waves have become both hotter and longer occurring in Germany as a result of climate change.
