A new collaboration against telephone fraud is being launched. The telecommunications operators must be forced to stop fraudulent calls and text messages based more on patterns in the telecommunications traffic than on the basis of the content.

It is The police authority and the Post and Telecommunications Board (PTS), which on behalf of the government has started working on the matter, based on, among other things, new legislation.

“Through close cooperation between authorities and telecom operators, we can strengthen protection for users and make it more difficult for criminals,” says director general Lena Nyberg on PTS’s website.

The telecom operators must, among other things, keep an eye on patterns where numbers try to contact a surprising number of recipients.

“Success for us is when text messages or phone calls don’t even reach the plaintiff,” says Mats Berggren, deputy head of the police’s National Operative Department (Noa).
