Eleven state authorities can reduce their use of fossil fuels by 16 million liters in 2026, according to a new survey from the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency.
On behalf of the government has The Swedish Environmental Protection Agency mapped that the authorities can reduce their emissions in the second half of the year by converting vehicles, ships and work machines to fossil-free alternatives – at an additional cost of SEK 239 million.
The amendment budget for 2026 includes SEK 500 million to facilitate the transition of state authorities to fossil-free alternatives. It must cover the additional costs that arise when fossil fuels are replaced.
The most common measure is, among other things, to replace fossil diesel with biofuel.
The mapping was based on authorities that in 2024 had reported the highest emissions of greenhouse gases from vehicles and work machines.
