Recently received Kenza Zouiten Subosic her first daughter whom she named Maya.
Followers have reacted to how the influencer and husband Aleksandar “Aleks” Subosic chose to pronounce the daughter’s name.
It is not pronounced “Maja” but is said with a Serbian pronunciation because the husband originates from Serbia.
Zouiten believes that the pronunciation can be compared to how you say the name in English. In social media, the influencer talks about how she will correct people close to the family so that the pronunciation is correct, which was met with reactions.
– How can you be criticized for the way you choose to pronounce your child’s name? It’s absolutely insane, says Zouiten in his podcast “More than just mother”.
She says that she herself has had to correct people who pronounce “Kenza” wrong.
– There is nothing strange about it. It hasn’t really bothered me. You have to correct them, then they understand. But then it becomes the worst thing that I complain about those who can’t pronounce it.
Hitting back at the comments
Zouiten says that people have also written that “you can move to Serbia if the name is to be pronounced Serbian”.
– I am like this, you can say what you want. I absolutely do not know how you will pronounce my daughter’s name.

Some write that they “feel sorry for preschool teachers” who need to learn the pronunciation of names that are not that common.
