A Russian-linked ship has been stopped off Sicily by the French navy, French President Emmanuel Macron says.

France has stopped another Russia-linked ship off Sicily, President Emmanuel Macron announces.

– On Tuesday, the French navy boarded the oil tanker Deliver when it passed off the coast of Sicily in violation of the law of the sea, says Macron.

He links the ship to the so-called shadow fleet that Russia uses to circumvent international sanctions. The fleet consists of hundreds of freighters of varying seaworthiness that sail under so-called flags of convenience.

Maritime websites showed on Thursday morning that the Deliver was just east of Malta.

The 274 meter long vessel sails under the Cameroonian flag and sets a route departing from Russia’s largest oil port Primorsk and destination Singapore.
