Day after day, Israel proves its intention to overthrow the ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip and perhaps return to war if the United States allows it to do so, by limiting President Donald Trump’s entire plan to disarming the resistance, experts say.
Since the agreement sponsored by the United States came into effect in October 2025, Israel has not stopped violating its provisions and refusing to implement its obligations. Rather, it has expanded its military presence in the Gaza Strip and recently announced its intention to continue expanding it.
During the months that followed the announcement of the agreement, Israel killed hundreds of Palestinians and carried out hundreds of attacks on various areas of the Gaza Strip, which prompted the United Nations Independent Commission to say that “continuing to deliberately kill children in Gaza reinforces Israel’s genocidal intent.”
The matter did not stop at continuing the killing, but it reached the return of the Israeli National Security Council to discuss the displacement of the residents of the Gaza Strip under the name of “voluntary immigration,” while “Haaretz” quoted sources that the matter may be related to a secret agreement between US President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Empty the agreement of its content
While Israel continues to violate the agreement and seek in every way to empty it of its content, the Palestinian resistance recently showed a positive response to a third proposal presented by the Executive Director of the Gaza Peace Council, Nikolai Mladenov, who analysts say adopts the Israeli narrative and vision in everything.
However, Israel did not respond to the new amended proposal presented by Mladenov, and there is even talk of submitting a new proposal that would return things to point zero, which reflects its intention to “evaporate the agreement and return to fighting in Gaza if it gets an American green light,” says Israeli affairs expert Dr. Muhannad Mustafa.
During his participation in the “Beyond the News” program, Mustafa confirmed that Israel has normalized its violations and made them part of reality because it considers them a preliminary prelude to the resumption of the war on the Gaza Strip.
In order to empty it of its content, Israel limited the agreement to disarming the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), and made all matters marginal to it, according to Mustafa, who said that the United States went along with the Israelis in this narrative, but still refuses to return to war.
Israel – as Mustafa says – only wanted from the agreement to restore its prisoners, and now it wants to return to military action, but America is the one preventing it, because “it is not concerned with the international community and will not respond to any pressure unless it is American.”
The resistance is in a difficult situation
As for the resistance, it is living in a difficult situation and has no choice but to continue dealing positively with the papers presented by Mladenov. Political analyst Dr. Iyad Al-Qara says that they are essentially Israeli, even though Israel is the one that rejects them whenever the Palestinians show responsiveness to them.
Hamas did not refuse to disarm, but it offered the mediators to carry out this mission within a national framework. It now continues to hold the mediators and guarantors accountable for their responsibilities regarding Israeli violations, and demands – according to what Al-Qara said behind the news – to be serious in dealing with the Gaza file, as they were serious with the Lebanon file.
Israel announced the expansion of its control to reach 70% of the Gaza Strip’s area, which Hamas considered – through its spokesman Hazem Qassem – as clear evidence of Tel Aviv’s violation of the agreement.
Also, launching military operations, continuing to close the crossings, moving the yellow line westward, and inflicting collective punishment on the residents of the Gaza Strip, makes the Israeli intentions to destroy the agreement clear to everyone and places the international community and the guarantors before their responsibilities, as Qassem said.
In the face of this clear Israeli tendency to destroy the agreement, Al-Qara believes that the resistance “may find itself forced to confront this invasion, so be it.”
On the other hand, former US State Department official Thomas Warrick believes that Mladenov and those working with him in the Peace Council “tried to persuade Hamas to accept the disarmament plan, but it rejected many of the drafts that were presented.”
In light of the fact that Israel is the one obstructing the agreement, violating it, and moving from one proposal to another, Warrick said that the agreement did not stipulate a phase of implementation, and therefore one party should not depend on its implementation to another that the other party must implement, but rather the agreement must be implemented as a whole by both parties.
Warrick justified the American tolerance of the crimes committed by Israel in the Gaza Strip by the Trump administration’s preoccupation with the war on Iran, expressing his hope that it would show greater interest in the Gaza file during the coming period because it had previously stressed the necessity of finding a way to move forward with the agreement.
