Iran declares three holidays in Tehran in connection with the three-day state funeral of the country’s former supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
The funeral ceremonies will begin in the capital Tehran on July 4 and will then be held in various parts of the country until July 9, when the actual burial will take place in Khamenei’s hometown of Mashhad, which is also included in the public holiday announcement.
Neighboring Iraq will also hold the funeral ceremony for Khamenei.
The funeral was initially planned for March, but was postponed due to the war that began on 28 February.
Khamenei, who ruled the Islamic regime for nearly 37 years, was killed on the first day of the war in Israeli and American airstrikes.
