The US Senate has voted to block Donald Trump from resuming the war against Iran.
The proposal won 50–48, with four Republicans voting with the Democrats.
The vote, which drives a wedge between Republican lawmakers and the White House, comes shortly after the United States and Iran reached a memorandum of understanding aimed at ending the war that the United States and Israel launched against Iran on February 28.
The initiative, which got the green light in the House of Representatives earlier in June, cannot be stopped, but Democrats and Republicans differ on whether it is legally binding or more symbolic in nature.
