A shot that steals the spotlight

The most prominent shot that caught the spotlight in the match was Phineas’ behavior with one of the players of the team coming from the African continent, one minute before the end of the regular time of the first half.

Cape Verdean player Telco Arkango fell on the field due to a muscle strain, and out of sportsmanship, Phineas, who was close to him, came to his aid.

But this noble behavior only lasted a few seconds. Without hesitation, Phineas left his counterpart Arcango and quickly headed towards the Cape Verde penalty area as a Uruguayan attack began in order to provide a numerical advantage to his team.

What increased interest in the shot was that the Uruguay national team was able to score the equalizer (1-1) through Maximiliano Araujo, after he followed a ball that bounced off the post and returned it to the net.

A few minutes later, Agustín Canobbio gave Uruguay the lead (2-1), so coach Marcelo Bielsa’s men returned to the locker room with the score ahead. After returning from there, Helio Varela took advantage of a joint error by the Uruguayan defense and goalkeeper to be able to equalize the score in the 61st minute.

Prioritization

The British newspaper The Sun described Phineas’ behavior as “rude”, while its German counterpart, Bild, refused to issue a definitive ruling and merely asked whether this behavior was “smart or lacks sportsmanship?”

The French network RMC Sport commented, “This is what we call prioritization. For Phineas, scoring a goal in the World Cup carries much more weight than helping an opponent suffering from muscle spasms.”

Cape Verde, ranked 69th in the world, currently ranks third in Group H with two points, on goal difference from second-placed Uruguay.

The Spanish national team leads this group with 4 points, and the Saudi national team is at the bottom with one point, which means that the possibilities of advancing to the round of 32 are still available to all teams, which will become clear through the results of the third and final round matches.

The Saudi national team will face its Cape Verdean counterpart next Saturday, June 27, at Houston Stadium at 3:00 am Mecca and Doha time, and at the same time Spain will play against Uruguay at Guadalajara Stadium in Mexico.
