A painting by the Spanish artist Pablo Picasso was unexpectedly found when police raided a house in the southern suburbs of Paris.
The police were conducting a house search against the background of suspected drug possession in a residence in Val-de-Marne south of Paris when the discovery was made. The Picasso painting in question has not been made public, but according to the prosecutor’s office in Créteil, the painting has been authenticated and is estimated to be worth tens of millions of euros.
Cannabis, valuable branded clothing and large amounts of cash were found in the raid in addition to the artwork.
On Friday, four people were brought before the court for immediate trial. The public prosecutor’s office states to the newspaper Le Parisien that an investigation into theft and embezzlement was opened after the discovery.
