Moroccan stars achieve historic records after victory over Scotland sports

The Moroccan national team, fourth in the last edition, approached the round of 32 with its deserved victory over Scotland 1-0 on Friday at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, on the outskirts of Boston, in the second round of Group C competitions within the 2026 World Cup.

Ismail Sibari scored the only goal of the match after only 71 seconds, giving his country its first victory in the current edition, after a 1-1 draw with Brazil in the first round.

Saibari’s goal breaks huge numbers

This is the fastest winning goal in a match that ended 1-0 in the history of the World Cup, as Ismail Sibari scored the winning goal after only 70 seconds. The previous record was set in the name of England against Paraguay in 2006 (in the third minute).

Morocco’s opening goal, scored in the 70th second, is the second fastest goal scored by an African team in a FIFA World Cup match; Asamoah Gyan scored a goal for Ghana against the Czech Republic in 2006 after 68 seconds, which is the fastest goal, while it is the fastest Arab goal in the history of the World Cup.

Moroccan Ismail Sibari also became the second African player to score in his first two World Cup matches, after Egyptian Mohamed Salah.

The Moroccan national team made 601 successful passes in this match, which is the largest number by an African team in a World Cup match since 1966.

Morocco achieved its sixth victory in the World Cup, tying it with Ghana and Nigeria as the most victorious African teams in history.

Ibrahim Diaz is the second Moroccan player to provide more than one assist in the FIFA World Cup (2 so far), after Taher El Khalj in 1998, who made three goals.

Moroccan Ayoub Bouadi (18 years and 260 days) became the fourth African player aged 18 or under to participate in multiple matches in the World Cup; Other players are Rigobert Song with Cameroon in 1994, Salomon Olympie with Cameroon in 1998, and Bartholomew Ogbeche with Nigeria in 2002.

Ibrahim Diaz made two goals for Ismael Sibari in this year’s World Cup, and this is only the second time in history that an African player has made two goals for a teammate in a World Cup tournament, after Henry Kamara made two goals for Papa Bouba Diop with the Senegal national team in 2002.

Hakimi writes history

Moroccan star Achraf Hakimi tops the list of the most participating Arab and African players in the history of World Cup finals.

With this appearance, Hakimi reached his 12th match in the World Cup, surpassing the previous record (11 matches), which was set by Cameroonian François Omam Bey and Ghanaian Asamoah Gyan.

While Scotland has now lost 17 of its last 19 matches in all competitions against countries that occupy the top six positions in the FIFA world rankings when facing them (one win, one draw), and has lost nine of its last 10 matches (one draw).

Scotland conceded a goal in the first two minutes of a match in a major tournament for the first time – the fastest goal they had previously conceded was in the fourth minute in World Cup matches against Paraguay in 1958 and Brazil in 1998.

Scotland’s starting lineup tonight included players who have combined 609 international caps for their country, the largest number of caps in its history.
