Legendary sitcom director James Burrows has died.
Now he is honored by several stars.
“You are truly a true icon on so many levels,” writes “Friends” star Matt LeBlanc.
James “Jimmy” Burrows co-created “Skål” and directed over 1,000 television episodes. Among other things, he worked on sitcom classics such as “Will & Grace”, “Frasier” and “Friends”.
On Friday, his family announced that Burrows deceased. He was 85 years old.
“As a legendary director, mentor and creative force, he helped shape generations of comedy and brought immeasurable joy to audiences worldwide,” they wrote, among other things.

Now he is mourned by several high-profile actors, including the “Friends” stars Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc and David Schwimmer.
“Jimmy, words cannot describe the impact and influence you have had on us and everyone who was lucky enough to know you. You are truly a true icon on so many levels,” writes Matt LeBlanc on Instagram.
“You will be missed. God bless you.”
David Schwimmer describes Burrows as a “father figure”.
“Jimmy Burrows brought out the best in every actor he ever worked with and elevated every show he directed, making it funnier and more poignant than anyone expected,” he writes on Instagram.
“His warmth, humility and generosity made us feel safe, like family, and I’m sure we weren’t the only ensemble that felt that way. He looked out for us, both in front of and behind the camera.”
DeVito: “The very best”
Lisa Kudrow, for her part, has posted a picture of herself with James Burrows next to his director’s chair.
A number of other actors also pay tribute to the television icon. Danny DeVito and Rhea Perlmanwho both appeared in the TV series “Taxi”, express their sadness in a statement, reports The Hollywood Reporter.
“He was the very best at what he did. His positive spirit, boundless energy and tireless work showed what it takes to run a television series and make people laugh. He will always be in our hearts,” they write.
In a post on Instagram, the “Will & Grace” star writes: Eric McCormack that Burrows was a “mentor and a close friend”.
“He was loved by all and has left not just a small mark, but a footprint. An incredible legacy,” he continues.
