As preparations continue for the second match in the 2026 World Cup against Austria, Argentina’s coach, Lionel Scaloni, finds himself again in the midst of the “selection dilemma” for the spearhead position, after the opening victory (3-0) over Algeria re-shed light on the intense competition between Lautaro Martinez and Julian Alvarez.

In the right-back position, a tactical question arises regarding the preference between Gonzalo Montiel, who was trusted to start in the opening match against Algeria, and Nahuel Molina, the usual choice who came on as a substitute at the beginning of the second half, indicating the possibility of regaining his position.
As for the left gallery, attention is focused on the extent of Nicholas Tagliafico’s recovery, as he continues his race against time to overcome a calf injury. After Facundo Medina played the role of an emergency substitute in the first match, the technical staff appears to be in a state of anticipation, although the recent medical reports from the Argentine Federation inspire optimism and confirm that Tagliafico is making tangible steps in his rehabilitation program on grass.
