Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar announced on Thursday that he had no choice but to cut off all contact with European Union Foreign Affairs Representative Kaya Kallas, after she compared Israel to South Africa during apartheid rule.

Saar said in a blog post on the X platform that Kalas has been working obsessively and without any integrity against Israel for some time, according to his claim. He added: “Recently, during her visit to Mexico, she compared Israel to the apartheid regime that prevailed in South Africa.” He considered that it “acts obsessively and shamelessly against the State of Israel.”

Saar continued: “I thank the European representatives who condemned these dangerous statements, but until now, Callas has refrained from any denial, response, or official comment regarding these statements.”

Callas traveled to Mexico between May 20 and 22, as part of a high-level European delegation that participated in a summit.

According to media reports, during closed meetings with Mexican officials, Callas compared Israel’s treatment of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank to the apartheid policies followed by South Africa until the early 1990s.

A state of popular and official anger is prevailing around the world against Israel, as a result of its crimes against the Palestinian people under occupation, especially during the war of genocide in the Gaza Strip since October 8, 2023.

This genocide, with American support, left more than 73,000 dead and more than 173,000 Palestinians injured, most of them children and women, and destroyed 90 percent of the infrastructure.

In November 2024, the International Criminal Court issued two arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Galant, on charges of committing war crimes and others against humanity in Gaza.

The International Court of Justice (the main judicial body of the United Nations) is also considering a lawsuit submitted by South Africa, joined by several countries, accusing Israel of committing genocide crimes in Gaza.
