All seven section managers within Skåne’s cancer care have resigned in protest against the management.
Now 108 doctors write in a letter that they demand that the operations manager resign.
“We see risks regarding the work environment and the possibility of conducting and developing high-quality cancer healthcare for Region Skåne’s patients”.
In solidarity with their managers, 108 oncologists direct harsh criticism at the management and operations manager Silke Engelholm in a letter they have sent today.
The entire medical college in oncology, hematology and radiation physics at Skåne University Hospital was called to a meeting on Wednesday morning. There, all section managers announced their resignations and told about their low confidence in management and the operations manager, reports SVT.
– It’s about a lack of trust, collaboration and communication that has been going on for a long time, and it has created a difficult work environment for us, says section manager Marie Klintman to Aftonbladet.
According to her, it will be impossible to complete the task as section manager.
– We have been trying to work with these problems for a long time, but we now feel that we can’t get any further, she says.
Sara Kinhult, section manager for CNS tumors, skin tumors and gynecological cancer, says South Sweden that it is not a specific event that is behind the dropouts, but that one of the problems is that the management does not announce changes in time.
– We do not receive information about important things that are planned. It may apply to changes that we are expected to work with and we cannot do that if we do not receive information about them, she tells the newspaper.
“Not meaningful anymore”
She continues:
– When there are problems and you try to work with them and get nowhere, you reach a limit when you don’t feel like it makes sense anymore.
In the doctors’ letter to the management, they write that they have unwavering trust in their outgoing managers and that “through their leadership, their availability and their commitment, they have created stability and trust”.
Operations manager Silke Engelholm commented on the mass defections Southern Finland on Wednesday:
– The section managers have indicated cooperation problems linked to my leadership. I take that criticism very seriously. No one is flawless, and I am prepared to examine my own role and leadership.
