Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian on Tuesday denied European statements that China is training fighters from Russia to participate in the fighting in Ukraine.
Lin said – in a press conference in Beijing – that there is no truth to these statements, stressing that their goal is to distort China’s reputation.
European Union foreign policy chief Kaya Callas said yesterday, Monday, that the European Union possesses “reliable information that the Chinese army has trained members of the Russian forces to fight in Ukraine.”
According to what was reported by the French news agency, Callas said in statements published on the European Union’s diplomatic service website that they are working to evaluate the consequences of this, adding that China remains a strong supporter of the war waged by Russia in Ukraine, as she put it.
Regarding the US-Iranian agreement scheduled to be signed next Friday, the Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman said that his country learned of Washington and Tehran’s agreement on a memorandum of understanding and their inclusion of provisions related to the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, noting that the Strait requires safe crossing in order to serve the interests of all parties.
Lin Jian added that his country maintains its communications in the Strait of Hormuz, and continues to work to protect the safety of its ships and crews.
Regarding the situation in Lebanon in light of the US-Iranian agreement, Lin stressed that China is very concerned about this situation, calling for respect for Lebanon’s sovereignty and security.
The Chinese spokesman also expressed his hope that the Lebanese and Israeli sides would adhere to their pledges in order to work on a permanent ceasefire to establish peace and stability in the Middle East.
