In its ongoing aggression against southern Lebanon, the Israeli occupation army is focusing on two important areas, Nabatieh and Tyre, in an attempt to impose its control over them, but it is facing obstacles and resistance from Hezbollah fighters, as happened in the town of Majdal Zoun, which constitutes the main obstacle to the advance towards Tyre, southern Lebanon.

Today, Sunday, the occupation army carried out raids on towns in southern and eastern Lebanon, while an Al Jazeera correspondent reported that an Israeli raid targeted the southern suburb of Beirut.

In this context, a joint statement by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz stated that the army launched an attack on Hezbollah targets in the southern suburb.

The interactive map presented by colleague Abdel Qader Arada shows that the Israeli targets were distributed to include the areas of Maroun al-Ras, Mays al-Jabal, Qantara, and Sharqiya, in addition to a bombing in Khiam.

The targets also targeted the southern areas of the Litani River, such as the areas belonging to the Tire and Bint Jbeil districts, as well as the areas north of the Litani, specifically Kafr Tibnit and Nabatieh.

The occupation issued warnings to the residents of the city of Nabatieh and towns in its district and the district of Jezzine to evacuate them, which expands the circle of areas whose residents are asked to leave.

In his analysis of the successive developments, the military and strategic expert, retired Brigadier General Khalil Gemayel, says that the town of Majdal Zoun constitutes the main node in the advance towards Tyre.

He explained that the occupation army tried several times to attack it from the Bayyada area, which it occupied two months ago, and from the western and eastern directions, but it did not succeed.

He added that he resumed the attack from the southwestern region, where he camped in a valley called Wadi Hassan, all the way to it, but he returned and retreated.

Majdal Zoun is located on the coastal road. It is a high plateau of rocky nature, surrounded by valleys, includes 3 villages, and is about 450 meters above sea level.

This area – according to the retired Brigadier General – constitutes what is called the second defensive line for Hezbollah, and he pointed out that if the Israeli army was able to control it, its path towards Tire would become easier, because the land is flat and is only interspersed with some scattered villages.

Two messages from Hezbollah

The expert confirmed that Hezbollah sent two messages to Israel when the pressure on Majdal Zoun increased. The first message stated that any progress or pressure on the defense line would be met with targeting of nearby Israeli settlements, indicating that the party had already targeted the Metulla settlement and others in the Upper Galilee.

As for the other message that Hezbollah wanted to send to Israel, it is that these marches that it launched this Sunday morning towards the Galilee settlements are not just an individual initiative by a fighter, but rather systematic radio marches that reached their goals and exploded in places that do not contain civilians.

Regarding the Israeli raids on the vicinity of the town of Sharqiya in Nabatieh District, the expert explained that the town is located far from the current fighting scene, in the Kafr Tibnit area and the eastern sector, noting that the occupation usually bombs it if missiles or drones are launched from it.

Speaking about the “war of the heights”, whether in Majdal Zoun in the western sector or in the Nabatieh District, specifically Ali Al-Taher Heights, Brigadier General Gemayel said that the latter is 600 meters above sea level, while Nabatieh is 400 meters high. He explained that this means that the occupation army can advance towards Nabatieh without passing through Ali Al-Taher, as it is the main road, but the last option will be costly, because the Nabatieh area is full of buildings.

The occupation army seeks to reach Ali Al-Taher Hill because it provides it with fire coverage and facilitates the entry process. He also believes that the area contains large Hezbollah warehouses, and therefore wants to control the main supply lines to neighboring villages.
