The pace of mutual attacks between Russia and Ukraine has escalated during the past hours, with Moscow announcing that it shot down hundreds of Ukrainian drones over several regions, while Kiev continued to target military infrastructure and supply lines in the territories under Russia’s control.
The exchange of strikes resulted in deaths and injuries on both sides, at a time when the scope of air attacks was expanding away from the direct confrontation lines.
The Russian Ministry of Defense reported, in a statement today, Friday, that its air defense forces intercepted and destroyed 231 Ukrainian drones last night over several Russian regions.
It is noteworthy that the Ukrainian army is launching drone attacks on the Russian oil and gas sector, in response to Russian forces targeting the energy infrastructure in Ukraine since the start of the Russian-Ukrainian war in February 2022.
Ukrainian strikes resulted in two deaths and two injuries on the night of Thursday and Friday in the Russian Bryansk region bordering Ukraine, according to local authorities.
Strikes and losses
Acting Governor of the Bryansk Region, Igor Kovalchuk, wrote on Telegram, “Two civilians were killed” and two people were injured as a result of artillery shelling in Suzumka.
This comes as a Russian drone strike resulted in the death of a woman and the injury of another in the Sumy border region in northeastern Ukraine, according to local military officials on Friday.
The head of the regional military administration, Oleg Grigorov, said via Telegram: “Unfortunately, the attack resulted in the death of a 44-year-old woman… and another 33-year-old woman seriously injured, and doctors are providing her with the necessary medical care.”
He added that the strike also caused severe damage to a three-story non-residential building. Three people were also injured in the Mykolaiv region in southern Ukraine.
