The US ambassador to Israel, Mike Huckabee, confirmed that American support for Tel Aviv is not based only on political and diplomatic interests, but rather stems from religious and ideological foundations linked to the Bible, praising the steadfastness of the Israeli economy and its non-collapse despite the recent ongoing military confrontations on five fronts.

The American ambassador – who indicated that he has intimate knowledge of the region that extends for decades since his first visit in 1973 – explained that the Christians of the United States stand by Israel out of faith and doctrine and not for passing political goals, adding that Israel represents the only place in the region and the world that is witnessing a state of growth and prosperity in the Christian population.

In this context, Huckabee appreciated the step of Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar to appoint a special ambassador with full powers to communicate with Christian communities and communities around the world, noting that this step reflects Israeli appreciation for the role played by believers in the Bible in America, Europe and Asia as Tel Aviv’s best friends.

The economy’s resilience against five military fronts

On the economic and field front, Huckabee expressed his astonishment at the strength of the Israeli economy’s performance following the events of October 7, pointing out that the financial market recorded an increase of 1 percent, in conjunction with achieving growth in the gross national product and the per capita income rate despite the burdens of exorbitant military spending to protect the country’s existence.

The American ambassador stressed that any other country in the world would have been subject to complete collapse if it faced such military conditions, huge spending, and fighting five wars on different fronts at the same time, but the economic system in Israel continued to grow and prosper and did not fall.

Huckabee concluded his speech by pointing out that the secret of Israel’s survival and its overcoming of the ongoing existential threats from a region that has many times its population and military budgets is not due to its military, technological and political capabilities alone, but is mainly due to the “divine promises mentioned in the Bible” to the Jewish people and Christians alike, recalling the comprehensive urban, agricultural and technological transformation that has witnessed its growth in this land over the course of thirty-five years.

Between propaganda and reality… the dimensions of the economic crisis and settler attacks in Jerusalem

In contrast to the optimistic statements of the American ambassador, economic reports indicate a different reality that the Israeli economy is currently experiencing due to the cost of the ongoing wars.

The published data confirms the decline in Tel Aviv’s credit rating by major international rating agencies such as Moody’s and Fitch, in addition to the unprecedented worsening of the general budget deficit, and the contraction of vital sectors including tourism, construction, and foreign investments as a result of the expanding military confrontation and the continuous call-up of reserve forces.

At the level of the ideological dimension of support and the Christian situation, political analyzes and criticism highlight a different point of view that sees the use of Christian Zionism as merely a political tool to pass military plans and bypass the resolutions of international law.

Field coverage also highlights the suffering of the authentic Christian component in Jerusalem and the occupied territories, who face systematic harassment and repeated attacks from extremist settler groups supported by the current right-wing government, which denies the validity of the allegations about the flourishing of the Christian presence under the occupation policies.
