Donald Trump nominates Attorney General Jay Clayton to be the new permanent US intelligence director.
That’s what President Trump writes on his platform Truth Social.
“Few people in the legal world are as respected as Jay. I urge the US Senate to confirm Jay as soon as possible,” Trump writes.
Current US intelligence director Tulsi Gabbard will leave her post on June 19. She has previously announced that she is resigning in order to have more time with her cancer-stricken husband.
Trump initially appointed Bill Pulte to the post of acting director of intelligence, but the nomination faced fierce criticism from both Democrats and Republicans. That’s because Pulte, who is head of the agency that oversees mortgage institutions in the United States, lacks experience in national intelligence work.
