Lower unemployment benefits and worse food in the country’s prisons.
The moderates are now presenting how they want to finance their reforms in the next term without raising taxes.
In total, there are savings of SEK 70 billion, according to Finance Minister Elisabeth Svantesson (M).
The moderates have now calculated how much they want to save on government spending over the next four years if they win the election.
The party finds part of the funding in reviewing the authorities’ costs, getting more people to switch from grants to work and streamlining public procurement.
– It’s the bureaucracy, it’s the aid and it’s the grants, says Finance Minister Elisabeth Svantesson.
A so-called “waste commission” must also be appointed immediately after the election, which will work for a year to identify what can be saved on. But already now M points out several areas.
“Can be provocative”
Among other things, the commission must review The Swedish Migration Agency grants because migration is down to low levels.
The cost per inmate at the country’s institutions may also need to be reduced. Crime does not only cost human suffering, says Svantesson.
– Building prisons with high security is insanely expensive, then of course the operation is also costly.
However, she does not believe that staffing should be compromised, but points out the food.
– It can certainly be provocative for older people who have elderly care and home care that they don’t think works, but you know that there are other people who have better food.
The commission will also review how the Employment Service can be made more efficient and whether the number of communicators in the authorities can be reduced.
– I love communicators, but you always have to question whether it is a reasonable size in relation to the authority.
Points out the unemployment fund
Svantesson also points out the contributions, above all the unemployment insurance fund. She wants to review a sharper time limit for unemployment benefits and activity support, an increased phasing out at day 201 and an abolished right of deduction. The compensation for so-called start-up jobs must also be reviewed. In total, it could be about six billion in savings, according to the party.
When asked how they should bring it The Sweden Democrats on cuts in the unemployment insurance fund, Svantesson replies that this is the Moderates’ entrance.
– If you want to be sure that we use tax money in the best way and also sharpen the line of work, then it is always the Moderates that you should vote for.
In the first place, a growing economy must contribute to the financing. One percent in increased growth would mean SEK 30 billion in increased scope for reforms, according to M.
The moderates’ proposal
The moderates point out savings in government spending that can be implemented in the next term.
Streamlining public spending and public procurement: SEK 40 billion.
Sharpened line of work, i.e. reduced tax and reduced grants: 21 billion.
Reduced fraud in the welfare systems and criminals’ use of public funds: SEK 10 billion.
Total: SEK 71 billion.
