So in the end it was all pat and done.
José Mourinho, 63, is back.
Real Madrid have officially presented the Portuguese as their new head coach.
During Tuesday Benfica confirmed that the club’s coach Jose Mourinho is bought off by Real Madrid and now the Portuguese has also been officially presented by his new old club. In doing so, Mourinho returns to the Spanish capital club, which he coached from 2010-2013, and has signed one that runs until June 30, 2029.
He joins the club on July 13, the day the pre-season begins.
Bought off from Benfica
That Mourinho would return has been known for some time. Even before Benfica’s confirmation, Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez stated that Mourinho would once again become the club’s coach – provided Pérez won Sunday’s presidential election, which he did.
Mourinho is bought for 15 million euros, around 160 million kroner, and succeeds interim coach Álvaro Arbeloa, whose departure from Real Madrid was published under Tuesday.
During his first spell at Real Madrid, Mourinho won three titles. Under his leadership, Real Madrid won the league in 2011/2012, the Spanish Cup in 2010/2011 and the Spanish Super Cup in 2012.
