A correctional officer is charged with causing the death of another – after a man in his 30s was found dead in an isolation cell at an institution in Malmö, Aftonbladet reports.

The incident occurred last year.

According to the newspaper, the inmate collapsed several times at the institution, but instead of being taken to a doctor, he was put in an isolation cell. He was found dead there several hours later.

Probation officers must have considered that the man was faking his symptoms.

– In the very clear guidelines for the Correctional Service, there is a great responsibility for the inmate. So I believe that you should have acted differently, says prosecutor Adrien Comber Hogg to Aftonbladet.

However, he does not believe there was any intent behind the death.

The prison guard is also charged with misconduct.
