The World Cup opener against Tunisia is only four days away. During Wednesday, Sweden had a long closed tactical training. Sportbladet’s photographer Pontus Orre captured assistant national team captain Sebastian Larsson in a picture at the end of the quarter that was open to the media. In his hand he held a piece of paper with what appears to be Sweden’s reserve eleven during training.
It is lined up in 4-4-2, the same formation used by Tunisia in the World Cup qualifiers against Austria and Belgium. The eleven consists of Jacob Widell Zetterström in goal and a back line with Herman Johansson, Eric Smith, Carl Starfelt and Daniel Svensson. In midfield there is Lucas Bergvall on the right, Mattias Svanberg and Besfort Zeneli in the center and Taha Ali on the left. Anthony Elanga and Gustaf Nilsson are listed at the top.
Stroud can start
If the picture actually shows the reserve eleven, it could mean that Sweden sets up in the following way against Tunisia:
Kristoffer Nordfeldt
Alexander Bernhardsson, Victor Nilsson Lindelöf, Isak Hien, Gustaf Lagerbielke, Gabriel Gudmundsson/Elliot Stroud
Jesper Karlström, Yasin Ayari, Benjamin Nygren
Viktor Gyökeres, Alexander Isak
Gabriel Gudmundsson was missing from yesterday’s training due to illness, but is given in the starting eleven if he is healthy. Ken Sema is available as an option, but during Tuesday’s open practice it was Elliot Stroud who practiced with the presumed back line. In another picture you also see what looks like HE, which means Hjalmar Ekdal on the side of the supposed reserve team.
Sweden plays the World Cup opener against Tunisia on Monday at 04:00 Swedish time.
