Russia bombed southeastern Ukraine with drones, killing two people and damaging a spent nuclear fuel storage facility near the Chernobyl plant in the north of the country, while Russian defenses shot down 500 Ukrainian drones during the past 24 hours.
These mutual attacks come before a meeting scheduled to be held today, Sunday, in London, in the presence of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
The Russian army launched a drone attack on the city of Zaporozhye, southeastern Ukraine, killing a man, according to Ukrainian rescue personnel.
Another man was also killed in the Dnepropetrovsk region in central Ukraine, which Russia targeted with drones and air strikes, according to the local military administration.
Russian forces bombed a spent nuclear fuel storage facility near the Chernobyl power plant in Ukraine, according to what Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky revealed on Sunday.
“A very important infrastructure facility, and a very mean Russian strike,” Zelensky wrote on the X platform, adding that Russia used a “Shahed” drone in the attack.
He added, “So far, there are no readings higher than normal levels of radiation. But there is definitely an increase in Russia’s impudence, which exceeded all limits long ago.”

Nuclear materials
The International Atomic Energy Agency said that the strike caused significant damage to a fuel reception building located meters away from where “large quantities of nuclear materials” were stored.
The state company Energoatom, which operates the Ukrainian nuclear plant, reported that the building was empty at the time of the accident and that radiation levels remained within the normal range.
Russia carries out repeated attacks on cities and infrastructure in Ukraine with drones and missiles. According to the Ukrainian Air Force, Russia targeted the country with 236 drones between Saturday night and Sunday morning, 215 of which were intercepted.

On the other hand, Interfax reported, citing the Russian Ministry of Defense, that its air defenses shot down 500 Ukrainian drones during the past 24 hours.
The agency added, quoting the ministry, that the defenses also shot down 11 guided aerial bombs and one shell from the American-made “HIMARS” missile launcher system.
Ukraine recently intensified its attacks on vital Russian energy infrastructure, from oil depots to refineries and export centers, in strikes that threaten to affect Moscow’s most important source of income.
London meeting
Politically, today, Sunday, in London, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer will hold a meeting to discuss developments in the war.
The French presidency announced that Macron, Meretz and Starmer will hold talks with each other before meeting with Zelensky, with the aim of “evaluating the efforts made to achieve a just and lasting peace in Ukraine.”

This meeting comes days after Zelensky proposed holding a bilateral meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, but the latter considered that this would be useless before reaching an agreement to end the war.
Putin said in statements he made the day before yesterday, Friday, from his city of St. Petersburg that he did not see any “usefulness” in meeting with Zelensky until a possible peace agreement was reached, pledging to move forward with Russia’s military operation until the war achieved its full goals.
