An Al Jazeera correspondent reported that a Palestinian was martyred and two others were injured, as a result of an Israeli bombing that targeted, this Saturday morning, a tent housing displaced people in the city of Khan Yunis, south of the Gaza Strip.
This bombing coincided with an intense military escalation by the occupation forces in various areas of the Gaza Strip, as Israeli artillery launched violent and intense bombardment within the areas under its control and in the eastern parts of the city of Khan Yunis, and the occupation quadcopter drones opened fire towards the southern areas of the city.
The Israeli army fired light bombs in the airspace of the town of Bani Suhaila, east of the city, amid continued artillery shelling, while its fire intensely targeted the Bureij camp in the central Gaza Strip, thus continuing the occupation forces’ violation of the ceasefire agreement through bombing, incursion and shooting operations.
Thus, the death toll from the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip since October 7, 2023 rises to 72,956 martyrs and 173,043 injured.

Systematic genocide and political blackmail
For its part, the Gaza Center for Human Rights issued a statement confirming the documentation of an escalating increase in the death toll, noting that the field scene during the first five months of 2026 shows a systematic genocide that does not differentiate between civilians and fighters.
According to data documented by the center during the period from January 1 to June 5, 2026 (155 days), 534 citizens were martyred at a rate of 7 martyrs every 48 hours (that is, one martyr every 6 hours on average), while 1,782 others were injured at a daily rate of about 12 injured.
The center explained that these numbers reflect the continuation of the crime of genocide in multiple forms, such as murder, forced displacement, and starvation, noting that one of the most recent attacks was the targeting of 4 residential apartments at dawn last Thursday, which led to the martyrdom of 10 citizens, including 4 women and a child, and the injury of dozens.
The Center for Human Rights warned that this continuing Israeli escalation comes at a time that anticipates a new round of negotiations between the Palestinian factions and mediators regarding consolidating the ceasefire that the occupation has violated since it entered into force on October 10 last year.
The Center believed that Israel is using the killing machine and increasing civilian casualties as a tool for political blackmail to extract concessions at the negotiating table, and called on UN bodies and the international community to take immediate action to stop the aggression, impose independent oversight, and hold accountable those responsible for these documented violations of international humanitarian law and the Geneva Conventions.
