Lebanese President Joseph Aoun accuses Iran of using the situation in Lebanon as a bargaining chip in talks with the United States.
– This is not your country, says Aoun in an interview with American CNN.
In an unusually outspoken interview with the media company CNN’s correspondent Christiane Amanpour, Aoun says that Lebanon has been caught between the parties to the conflict, Iran, Israel and the United States.
– A military solution will never bring peace to northern Israel, states Aoun and questions whether Israel and its inhabitants “are tired of waging war since 1948”, according to CNN on Friday.
In the last three months, over 3,500 people have been killed in Israeli attacks in Lebanon. A fifth of Lebanon’s population has been forced to leave their homes, says Aoun in the interview.
