Jerusalem- Sheikh Walid Siam (71 years old), one of the imams of the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque, died in the occupied city of Jerusalem today, Thursday, after a long struggle with illness. The Wadi Hilweh Information Center in Jerusalem stated that Sheikh Siam died after a long career in education and advocacy.
The Sheikh is considered one of the well-known scholarly and advocacy figures in Jerusalem. He was known as the imam of Al-Aqsa Mosque. He devoted decades of his life to teaching Islamic education, the Holy Qur’an, and the rules of Tajweed, and generations of the city’s people were taught by him.
A scholar, preacher, and imam
Sheikh Siyam received his legal education in the Holy City, and was known for his presence in knowledge circles and lessons of the Holy Qur’an and the Sunnah of the Prophet in the Al-Aqsa Mosque. He also worked as a legal official and preacher, and in 2019 he was arrested by the Israeli occupation and house arrest for days.
His passing left an impact on his Jerusalemite fans and others, as social media sites were filled with obituaries from many who enumerated his good virtues, recalling his role as one of the “flagships” of Al-Aqsa Mosque and its distinctive “voices,” stressing his keenness and insistence – despite his recently worsening illness – to attend the mosque via an electric wheelchair.

Sheikh Hussam al-Din Afana, one of the scholars of Palestine and the son of Jerusalem, also mourned Sheikh Walid Siam, saying, “Sheikh Walid Siam, the imam of the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque, the sheikh of the Holy Qur’an House there, and the imam of the Adhami Mosque, has passed away to the mercy of God Almighty.”
Sheikh Afaneh added on his Facebook page that Sheikh Siam “is one of the best students I have taught in terms of morals, literature, knowledge, and loyalty.”
