Russian President Vladimir Putin during a conversation in Moscow on Wednesday.

Russia’s goal remains the full demilitarization of Ukraine, says Vladimir Putin.

– We want to make sure that there can be no armed forces in Ukraine that can pose a threat to Russia, says the Russian president during a press conference in St. Petersburg.

– If an agreement cannot be reached peacefully, then a military solution must be sought, adds Putin.

When asked if there are any plans for a meeting or telephone conversation with US President Donald Trump, Putin replies that it “would be of great benefit”.

– I agree with the American president that it (a meeting) should be well prepared and that it should produce some positive results, Putin says.

– We have great respect for his (Trump’s) intention to rebuild relations with Russia.
