For six days, climbing guide Dawa Sherpa was missing without a trace somewhere on Mount Everest.
Everyone thought he was dead – but the man miraculously managed to survive.
– We had given up hope, says the wife.
British mountaineer Chris Thrall lamented what he believed to be the death of Dawa Sherpa.
Somewhere on the way down from the world’s highest mountain, the duo got separated. The weather conditions are described as brutal and with the Sherpa gone for several days, Thrall suspected the worst.
But Sherpa, who is in his 50s, managed to crawl to a base camp and was picked up by helicopter.
The family began to mourn
– We treat his cold injuries, other cold-related injuries, dehydration and trauma. He is undergoing further tests and will remain in the intensive care unit, according to doctor Nishant Dhakal News.
The family had already begun a mourning ritual and did not dare to believe the message they received over the phone when Sherpa was found.
– At first we weren’t sure it was really him. But they sent pictures that confirmed it and then I was happy, says daughter Mendo Lhamu Sherpa.
The reason Thrall and Sherpa didn’t go together all the way was that Sherpa stopped while Thrall was helping a Pole who had run out of supplemental oxygen.
