Tragic incident
The Spanish newspaper Marca reported that Kuluth, 27 years old, was at the time of the attack working as a technician at a uranium exploration site near Lake Norbury Regional Park.
She indicated that a civilian who was at the scene at the time of the incident, which took place on May 8, shot the bear and killed it, but he was unable to save Koluth’s life.
The company where Kuluth worked confirmed the news of his death, while his brother Arjun said that he dreamed of professional mixed martial arts, which was the main reason that prompted him to travel to Canada 3 years ago.
His brother Arjun said: “Hrishikesh’s dream was to fight, that’s why he came to Canada. He wanted to compete in UFC events.”
Hrishikesh Kuluth, originally from the Indian state of Kerala, has been practicing mixed martial arts for more than 10 years, and moved to Canada in 2023.
Kuluth joined a training center in the city of Penticton in order to achieve his dream, where everyone placed “high hopes” in him, according to his brother’s statements.
“It shouldn’t have ended this way,” Arjun continued. “A Canadian Mounted Police officer came to my door, knocked on the door and informed me that my brother had died in Saskatchewan.”
Arjun, Hrishikesh’s older brother, concluded: “I want people to remember him for what he did. An innocent heart, and a fighting spirit. I would just like to say that he killed the bear. The bear did not just attack him, but he was the one who attacked the bear and fought it. He was not afraid of anything.”
This is the fourth such incident of fatal bear attacks in the recorded history of the province of Saskatchewan, according to the Canadian CBC website.
He explained that the last incident before Kuluth dates back to 2020, when Stephanie Bliss (44 years old) was killed by a bear near her family’s cabin north of the Buffalo Narrows area.
