A five-meter-high dome of colored glass can give visitors a sense of the aurora borealis, perhaps even a new connection to the cosmos.

So can “Aurora borealis star dome” by the Spanish artist Cristina Iglesias be described. The site-specific sculpture is this year’s addition Princess Estelle sculpture park on Djurgården in Stockholm and located at the highest point in the area.

Princess Estelle participated together with her parents at the inauguration of the new work in the sculpture park, which is named after her.

Cristina Iglesias has created a room for visitors to walk into, built from branches cast in aluminum that appear to grow out of the bedrock. At the top is a dome of colored glass.

Prince Daniel inaugurated the work on Tuesday with Princess Estelle and Crown Princess Victoria in place, and like the other sculptures it is accessible to all passers-by.

At the opening, the composer performed Britta Byströms specially written piece “Tempel im gehör”.
