Luis Suárez had hoped to play one last World Cup.

But it won’t be like that.

When national team captain Marcelo Bielsa selected Uruguay’s squad for the championship, the striker was not included.

Luis Suárez has reached the age of 39 and today plays in the club team Inter Miami in the MLS, together with, among others, Lionel Messi. Suárez, who has previously played for Barcelona and Liverpool, was probably hoping to get the chance to play at the World Cup this summer.

But the veteran gets the nod from Uruguay’s national team captain Marcelo Bielsa. When Bielsa took out the squad, the 39-year-old was not there.

Luis Suárez has not played in the national team for a long time but earlier in May he opened up about making a comeback in the national team.

Uruguay plays in Group H and faces Cape Verde, Spain and Saudi Arabia.
