World Health Organization WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus has arrived in the Ebola-affected region of Ituri in Congo-Kinshasa.

Ghebreyesus is expected to visit treatment centers in the city of Bunia and meet with local authorities, health workers and families affected by the infection.

– That is why we are here, to discuss with the community and to see how things develop and if there are any challenges to help with, he tells journalists.

The contagious disease has spread to at least three regions in the country and neighboring Uganda.

At least 1,077 suspected cases have been confirmed in Congo-Kinshasa since the outbreak was confirmed in mid-May, including 246 deaths, according to the African Union’s Africa CDC.
