For sale: Skeleton of a 67 million year old Tyrannosaurus rex, in excellent condition. Possible price: between 20 and 30 million dollars.
In mid-July, the T-rex “Gus” – named after Gary “Gus” Licking, the rancher on whose land in South Dakota the skeleton was found – will be put up for sale at the auction house Sotheby’s. And the expected price, corresponding to between SEK 185 and 275 million, is the highest for a dinosaur fossil, writes the Financial Times.
According to Sotheby’s, the skeleton is one of the most complete of a T-rex ever found.
But the final price may well be even higher. Two years ago, an almost complete skeleton of a Stegosaurus was sold for around the equivalent of 470 million kroner, after having been expected to go for around 60 million kroner.
