Fans of the famous game “The Witcher” were surprised yesterday by the announcement by Polish studio CD Projekt Red of a completely new story addition to the third part of the series, “The Witcher 3”, which will be released next year, more than 12 years after the launch of the game and its additional content in 2015.
The new addition, which comes under the title “The Witcher 3: Songs of the Past,” tells a new chapter in the story of the game’s original hero, Geralt, without any additional details about the events of the addition or its temporal location in the original game world, according to a report by the American technical website “The Verge.”
The studio is developing the game in cooperation with another Polish studio called “Fool’s Theory”, which is the same studio responsible for redeveloping the original “The Witcher” game, which was released in 2007 exclusively for personal computers.

The new addition to the game “The Witcher 3” will be released next year on home platforms and personal computers, with no indication of its release on Nintendo Switch devices, whether first or second generation, and this version may be delayed a little due to the new technical requirements for the addition, according to a report by the American technical website “Engadget”.
In a related context, a report from the American technical website TechPowerUp revealed that the game “The Witcher 3” was upgraded for free to suit the current PlayStation 5 and Xbox devices, in addition to increasing the requirements to run the game on personal computers.
The new requirements require at least 12 GB of RAM with an eighth-generation Intel processor, as well as a GTX 1660 graphics card from NVIDIA and an SSD storage space of at least 70 GB.
While these specifications seem modest compared to the rest of modern games, they come for a game that was released more than a decade ago.
“The Witcher 3” is considered one of the most important games released in the modern era, as the game achieved widespread public and critical success, making it achieve sales exceeding 60 million copies, according to a report by “The Verge.”
The game is the third part in a series of games based on the story of Polish writer Andrzej Sapkowski, according to a report by the American technical website Polygon.
The announcement of the new addition to the game “The Witcher 3” represents a huge surprise for all fans of the series, because last year the studio announced the start of development on the fourth part of the series, “The Witcher 4”, with the change of the game’s hero to become Ciri, the young girl who was trained by Geralt in the previous parts, according to the “Polygon” report.
The report expects that the story of the addition will revolve around events from Geralt’s past due to the name the studio chose for it, and this is consistent with the most recent books by the author of the series, who released a new book that revolves around Geralt’s first missions when he was young in the world of monsters.
However, the studio did not announce any additional details regarding the game, and the studio’s statement on the “X” platform indicates that the announcement of the addition was not planned, but came as a result of a group of leaks, and adds that more details of the game will appear in the coming months.
