Captain James Rodriguez and Bayern Munich winger Luis Diaz lead Colombia’s World Cup squad announced by coach Nestor Lorenzo on Monday, in preparation for the tournament that will be held next month in the United States, Mexico and Canada.
Colombia returns to the World Cup after missing the finals in Qatar in 2022, where it will participate for the seventh time. Rodriguez, who won the Golden Boot award at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, will lead a squad of experienced players that also includes Crystal Palace duo Daniel Munoz and Jefferson Lerma.

Coach Lorenzo’s team qualified after a strong qualifying campaign in South America, and will seek to improve on its best World Cup result of reaching the quarter-finals in 2014.
Colombia is holding a camp in Bogota before playing two friendly matches against Costa Rica on June 1 and Jordan on June 7, and begins its campaign in Group 11 against Uzbekistan on June 17.
It will also face Democratic Republic of Congo and Portugal in the group stage.
