Police officers take away climate activists who set up a roadblock at Slussen in Stockholm 2022.

46 climate activists from Sweden, Norway and Germany are suing the Swedish state.

The activists accuse Sweden of violating the freedom of expression and demonstration by bringing activists to court, and call the case the Rosamålet.

“Swedish prosecutors and judges violate human rights. The legal persecution of climate protesters violates all basic laws and conventions,” says the case’s representative Viktor Jonsson in a press release.

Sweden has been criticized by, among others, the human rights organization Civil Rights Defenders, which last year described “a worrying trend in Sweden, where peaceful demonstrators are met with ever harsher punishments, new serious criminal classifications such as sabotage and blue light sabotage, and prosecutions that can lead to imprisonment”.
