The drones that targeted the Barakah nuclear power plant in Abu Dhabi on Sunday were fired from Iraq, the United Arab Emirates’ Ministry of Defense said.

The announcement means that it was likely Iran-backed Shia militias in Iraq who were behind the attack.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack, but Iran-allied militias have previously carried out attacks against countries around the Persian Gulf during the Iran War.

The three drones caused a fire in an electrical generator, but there was no damage to the nuclear power plant itself.

Three more drones have been sent against the United Arab Emirates in the past two days, according to the Defense Department.
