Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman Al Thani discussed in Washington with US Vice President J.D. Vance the latest developments in the region and Pakistan’s efforts to reach an agreement between the United States and Iran.
The Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the meeting between the two sides reviewed the close strategic cooperation relations between the State of Qatar and the United States of America and ways to support and enhance them in various fields.
She indicated that the meeting discussed the latest developments in the situation in the region and Pakistani mediation aimed at reducing the escalation in a way that contributes to enhancing security and stability in the region.
The Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister stressed the need for all parties to respond to the ongoing mediation efforts, which opens the way for addressing the roots of the crisis through peaceful means and dialogue, and leads to reaching a comprehensive agreement that achieves sustainable peace in the region.
Yesterday, the Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister discussed, in a phone call with Pakistani Prime Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif, the latest developments in the mediation, stressing the State of Qatar’s full support for the mediation efforts aimed at ending the crisis through peaceful means.
These moves coincide with statements by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio in which he revealed that the United States is waiting to receive a response from Tehran on Friday, expressing his hope that the response will carry a “serious offer.”
For its part, the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that the response to the American proposal is still under study and we will announce it when the final result is reached.
On Thursday, Reuters reported from sources that Washington and Tehran are close to reaching a limited and temporary agreement to stop the war through a draft framework that will be implemented in three stages: ending the war, resolving the Strait of Hormuz crisis, and opening a 30-day window for negotiation.
