Most players usually celebrate when a goal is scored by kissing the team badge or pointing to the sky, but Canadian Thomas Kublak took the opportunity and pulled out his real estate business card.
The Inter Toronto striker, who also works as a real estate broker, turned his goal celebration into a marketing opportunity in the match that ended with his team’s 4-1 victory over defending champion Atletico Ottawa yesterday, Friday.
After a first half in which there was no scoring, Kublak scored his team’s first goal five minutes after the start of the second half when he received a long ball sent behind the defenders and shot it into the goal.
Kublak then folded up one of his socks, took out his business card, held it up to the camera, and raised his hand like a phone, signaling for viewers to contact him about their real estate needs in Ontario.
Canadian channel One Soccer quoted Kublak as saying, “I’m a full-time player here at Inter Toronto and also a full-time realtor. I thought I spend a lot of money marketing my business outside of soccer, so I’ll get some free marketing here.”
Then the Canadian striker (28 years old) scored another goal five minutes later, which contributed to Toronto rising to second place in the standings.
Koblak is currently the Canadian Premier League’s top scorer this season, which is a remarkable achievement considering his busy schedule.
The player said during an interview with the CBL website last month, “I am actually on the phone with clients as soon as the training is over. It is difficult, but I manage it well.”
He added, “My schedule is usually as follows: I train until 11:00 a.m. or 12:00 p.m., and the team lunch ends at 12:30. I usually communicate with clients from 1:00 to 9:00 p.m. This is what my day looks like.”
