Pakistan confirmed on Thursday that it is continuing its intensive efforts with the United States and Iran to achieve lasting peace between the two countries and restore stability to the Middle East region.
Pakistani Foreign Ministry spokesman Tahir Andrabi said, in a press conference in Islamabad, that his country’s officials continue to open channels for talks between Washington and Tehran, stressing Pakistan’s commitment to the peace path and giving priority to the principles of dialogue and diplomacy in the face of what he described as complex geopolitical challenges.
He added that on April 19, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif held talks with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian that lasted 45 minutes, in addition to other discussions with the authorities in Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the Sultanate of Oman.
He continued that Sharif assured the Iranians of his country’s commitment to continuing mediation efforts in order to achieve peace and stability, and he also thanked Iranian Leader Mojtaba Khamenei.
Shahbaz Sharif recently undertook a tour that included three pivotal countries, namely Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey, as part of Pakistan’s tireless efforts to hold a possible second round of talks between Washington and Tehran, and to search for new horizons for strategic partnerships.
Pakistan mediated between the United States and Iran to end the war that broke out on February 28, culminating in holding a first round of negotiations in Islamabad, but contacts have not yet led to holding a second round of negotiations between the two countries.
