The Iranian Press TV channel quoted an Iranian security source as saying that the continuation of “US maritime piracy” would soon be confronted with unprecedented military action, while international media reported US President Donald Trump’s intention to impose a long blockade on Iran’s ports.
The security source added that the Iranian Armed Forces believe that patience has limits and that “a harsh response is necessary if Washington continues its illegal naval blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.”
He explained that the restraint shown by the Iranian armed forces was aimed at giving diplomacy a chance, and allowing the United States to see and accept Iran’s conditions for ending the war permanently.
He said that this pause was aimed at giving President Trump an opportunity “to get the United States out of the current impasse in which it finds itself.”
He warned, “If American intransigence and delusions continue, the enemy should soon expect a different kind of response to the ongoing naval blockade, which resembles the actions of maritime bandits.”
A long naval blockade
In this context, Reuters quoted a White House official as saying that President Trump and oil company officials discussed steps to continue the blockade imposed on Iran for months if necessary.
The Wall Street Journal also reported that Trump ordered national security officials to prepare for a long blockade of Iran’s ports, with the aim of pushing Tehran to abandon its nuclear program.
She added that Trump believes that Iran is not negotiating in good faith, and hopes to force it to suspend uranium enrichment for 20 years and accept strict restrictions after this stage.
The newspaper quoted officials as saying that the US President decided, during a meeting held on Monday in the White House Situations Room, that the options of resuming the bombing or withdrawing from the war both involved a great risk.
She added that he informed officials that the alternative option is for the US Navy to continue to strangle Iranian oil exports until Tehran agrees to all of Washington’s demands.
In a post on the Truth Social platform, today, Wednesday, Trump urged Iran to “reason quickly” and conclude an agreement, adding that it “was unable to settle its affairs.”
“They don’t know how to sign a non-nuclear agreement,” he wrote. “They better wise up soon.”
Trump confirms the effectiveness of the blockade
In the same context, Axios quoted President Trump as saying that Iran wants to reach an agreement to lift the naval blockade imposed on it, but he stressed that the blockade will remain until the regime agrees to an agreement that addresses US concerns about its nuclear program, stressing that Tehran cannot possess a nuclear weapon.
Trump pointed out that the Iranians are suffocating (because of the blockade), and that the blockade is more effective than bombing, and the situation will be worse for them.
Axios also quoted sources who said that Trump sees the continuation of the blockade as his main source of pressure, but he will consider the option of military action if Iran does not respond. The sources added that Trump did not issue any orders to carry out any military action until Tuesday evening.
