US President Donald Trump said – today, Tuesday – that Iran has informed the United States that it is in a state of collapse and wants it to open the Strait of Hormuz as soon as possible, without revealing the way in which Iran delivered that message.

Trump added – in a post on social media – that “Iran just informed us that it is in a state of collapse, and wants us to open the Strait of Hormuz as quickly as possible, while it tries to arrange its leadership situation, and I believe that they will be able to do that.”

The White House has not yet responded to a request for comment on the post on the Truth Social platform.

Negotiations surrounded by tension

The discussions between Iran and America to end the war are witnessing a state of tension, as the United States announced that it is studying new Iranian proposals related to opening the Strait of Hormuz, at a time when Tehran considers that Washington is no longer in a position to dictate conditions.

BANDAR ABBAS, IRAN - APRIL 22: Ships are anchored near the shoreline on April 22, 2026 in Bandar Abbas, Iran. Bandar Abbas is a port city and the capital of Hormozgan Province, along the Persian Gulf and Strait of Hormuz. Earlier today, Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps said it had attacked and seized two ships near the Strait of Hormuz as it tried to assert control over the critical waterway. The incidents came the day after US President Donald Trump announced an extension of a ceasefire between his country and Iran, and after Iran refused to attend the latest proposed round of peace talks in Islamabad. Iran has practically closed the vital strait for global oil and liquefied natural gas supplies, since the start of the American-Israeli attack on it two months ago. The future of navigation in this region has become a major point of controversy, with Washington in turn imposing a blockade on Iranian ports.

White House spokeswoman Carolyn Levitt said that Washington is studying a new Iranian proposal within the framework of the discussions mediated by Pakistan, and the American CNN network suggested that the American president would not agree to what Iran offered, which was reported to include opening the strait and lifting the blockade on the ports in a first step, and postponing discussion of other controversial points to later stages.

News reports reported that the latest Iranian proposal stipulates postponing discussion of the Iranian nuclear program until the end of the war and the settlement of disputes related to maritime shipping from the Gulf.

It is unlikely that the proposal will satisfy Washington, which insists on the necessity of resolving nuclear issues from the beginning. In this regard, an American official familiar with Trump’s meeting yesterday, Monday, with his advisors – and who declined to reveal his identity – told Reuters that the president is not satisfied with Iran’s proposal for this reason.

Earlier, the White House spokeswoman said that the United States “will not negotiate through the press” and “is clear about our red lines,” at a time when the Trump administration seeks to end the war against Iran that it began in February with Israel.

Revised version

On the other hand, CNN quoted sources as saying that mediators in Pakistan are expected to receive a revised proposal from Iran within the next few days to end the war, after President Trump indicated that he would not accept the previous version.

The network added that Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi will return to Tehran on Tuesday, after a visit to Russia, and he is expected to consult with the leaders of the regime.

CNN noted, “This process is slow due to the difficulty of communicating with Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei, whose whereabouts are kept secret.”

She continued – quoting the sources – that “the process is still ongoing and changing, and much will depend on.” if Iran would not have come back with a modified proposal more acceptable to the United States.”

For its part, the German Foreign Ministry said that Iran must end its blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, adding that this is necessary to reach a peaceful solution to the war in Iran.

The German Foreign Ministry indicated – in a statement – that the UN Security Council must play a decisive role in this matter.
