The Google Chrome browser recently received a new update that added a feature that users have long requested, a feature called “Skills” that focuses primarily on artificial intelligence commands and their use, according to a report by the American technical website “The Verge.”
Users who received the latest Chrome update – which integrated the browser with Google’s artificial intelligence assistant “Gemini” – can benefit directly from the artificial intelligence tool within the browser.
The new feature relies directly on saving commands directed to artificial intelligence so that you can operate them with the push of a button instead of retyping the command every time you need to run it.
This feature works exclusively with the “Gemini” tool, as it is directly integrated into the Google Chrome browser, and this means that you will not be able to use the “Skills” feature with add-ons that allow you to access other artificial intelligence tools.
Google has already provided 50 preset skills stored in the browser that you can choose from, or you can type the commands you want and save them as skills separately.
How do you access the skill feature?
Currently, users in several countries around the world can access “Gemini” and thus the skills feature directly within “Chrome”, and it is expected that the feature will reach the rest of the world successively, according to a separate report from the American technical website “Wired”.
You can use the feature directly by clicking on the “Gemini” sign that appears at the top of the “Chrome” browser, then pressing the backslash “/” button to display the list of skills stored in the browser.
Various uses
The new skills feature offers a variety of different uses that can make it easier for users to work, especially those who rely heavily on artificial intelligence while using the browser.
The uses that the new feature can provide to users are varied, starting from summarizing Internet pages or searching for information in them, as well as the possibility of relying on it to rewrite emails and documents.
The feature gives the user complete freedom to modify its use as he wishes, whether by storing new commands in it or even modifying commands that Google added directly to the feature.
It can also be used to generate images through the “Nano Banana 2” integrated into “Gemini”, as the user can request the generation of an appropriate image for a page or the generation of graphs that explain the information contained on different pages.
Chrome is the last to arrive
The “Wired” report indicates that a number of browsers have had a similar feature for some time, including the new Opera browser enhanced with artificial intelligence, which has the “Cards” feature that works similarly to the “Skills” feature in Chrome, but it works with all the artificial intelligence tools integrated into the browser and is not limited to “Gemini” only.
Arc Browser also has a similar feature, as it has artificial intelligence features directly integrated into it.
The report confirms that Google accelerated its efforts to integrate artificial intelligence with the Chrome browser at the beginning of this year, as the feature was not previously integrated into the browser, which prompted users to rely on external tools and add-ons that integrate artificial intelligence directly into the browser.
These endeavors include developing a user-oriented artificial intelligence agent based on Gemini and capable of interacting with the browser and web pages instead of users, the report stated.
But the artificial intelligence agent feature has not yet seen the light of day, as Google is still working on developing it internally, with expectations that it will be released to the browser soon.
Google also added an option that allows users to turn off artificial intelligence features within Chrome directly through the settings menu, which gives users greater freedom to control the browser.
