The Spanish court issued a final ruling ruling that there was no criminal responsibility in the tragic traffic accident that claimed the lives of Liverpool star Diego Jota and his brother Andre Silva last July.
The Athletic newspaper reported that investigations by experts into traffic accidents and the Traffic Unit of the Civil Guard concluded that the Lamborghini car in which the two brothers were traveling suffered a sudden tire explosion during an overtake on the A-52 highway, which led to it colliding with the median barrier and immediately bursting into flames.

The Supreme Court of Castile and Leon confirmed that the case was closed criminally because no crime was proven, noting that this decision does not prevent the affected parties from filing civil lawsuits to demand any compensation they deem appropriate.
The tragic accident occurred on July 3, 2025, in the province of Zamora (northwestern Spain), while Jota (28 years old) was driving his car with his brother Silva (25 years old) on their way to England to begin preparations for the new season, based on medical advice not to travel by air following a simple surgical procedure.
Jota’s departure came at the height of his football career, as he had led Liverpool to win the 20th English Premier League title in its history, in addition to winning the European Nations League with the Portuguese national team. Jota left behind a great legacy at Anfield by scoring 65 goals and assisting 26 others during 182 matches in the Reds jersey.
As for his brother, Andre Silva, he was also a professional player for the Portuguese club Penafiel, after he graduated from the prestigious FC Porto school.
The funeral of the two brothers, which was held in their hometown of Gondomar in Portugal on July 5, witnessed the presence of a large number of football stars, led by Liverpool coach Arnie Sloat and Portuguese national team coach Roberto Martinez, amid a state of global grief that was embodied in the condolences that Liverpool FC opened to its fans at Anfield and via the Internet.
