The General Authority of Civil Aviation in Kuwait said today, Thursday, that it has been decided to reopen the country’s airspace as of today, for the first time after its closure following the outbreak of the American-Israeli war on Iran on February 28.
The Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) quoted the Chairman of the General Authority of Civil Aviation, Sheikh Hamoud Mubarak Hamoud Al-Sabah, as saying that the reopening of the airspace at Kuwait International Airport today came “in coordination with the relevant and international authorities (…) to gradually resume air traffic in preparation for the full operation of the airport.”
The Kuwaiti official added that the step came after “inspecting the damage caused to some airport facilities as a result of the sinful Iranian aggression and its agents and affiliated armed factions,” noting that the technical teams began maintenance and repair work for devices, operational equipment and infrastructure to ensure the full readiness of Kuwait International Airport.
Run through stages
Sheikh Hamoud Al-Sabah added that the operation of Kuwait International Airport, in its first phase, will include “specific stations according to operational priorities that ensure the safety of operations, with continued evaluation of each stage before moving to broader stages.”
The airport was repeatedly targeted during the war, which was stopped by a truce that has been in effect since April 8.
The Chairman of the General Authority of Civil Aviation in Kuwait expressed his thanks to Saudi Arabia for its cooperation and support in operating Kuwaiti airlines through Saudi airports during the recent period.
On April 19, Kuwaiti Prime Minister Ahmed Al-Abdullah visited Kuwait Airport and listened to an explanation from officials about the restart plans and the measures taken to ensure the smooth flow of operational movement, including the readiness of facilities and security and safety systems.
